Count the windows

Count the windows

This picture was taken at Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. This monument was built in 18th century. It is a five-storey building with 953 small windows. The purpose to build these windows was to let royal women enjoy the view of the market below the palace without being seen by public as the women used to follow strict ‘purdah’ system (face cover). Men!!

  1. I didn’t know that this was the story behind so many windows.
This is like taunting the royal women; you can just see but can’t go out.

  2. Hi A Mittal, these are brilliant and superb awesome pics. Thanks for educating me on the story behind the many windows:)
    Cheers
